Homesick

It's not often I feel homesick-after all, I've been away from the States for many years now. But today is often one of those days I feel a little twinge, I miss just a little of where I am from. It's just another day here (a day where Angus' newly arrived son Jeff and I will go to the movies and see Over the Hedge), a day of conference calls in the morning and normal life in the evening reign. We had our own brilliant party this weekend that I loved and more on that later however here, in my new country, it's just another Tuesday.

But in my heart it's a day of barbecues and fireworks, of laughter and corn on the cob, of the scent of foamy beer and hot afternoons.

Happy Independence Day, America.

I miss you today.

1 I miss it, too... no barbeques or parties, no relaxed fun-in-the-sun. I still can't believe little things like this make me homesick. And that nobody even seems to realize that today's a special day.

2 I feel future-homesickness. I'm not gone yet, but I know I will be so today is a bit emotional in that respect. Have a good 4th of July, Helen!

4 Happy 4th of July to you from Houston TX. We've got the bbq pit ready for hamburger patties and hot dogs, lots of potato salad and corn on the cob.

5 Happy Independence Day from Pompano Beach, Florida! Fireworks have been going off for two weeks now, so maybe we'll get some sleep after tonight. Ah... what do they call the 4th over in the motherland? 'ungrateful colonist uprising'?

7 I miss it too even though I was only in the US for 6 1/2 years. I got a beautiful email from my friend with photos of her 18 month old son running down the sidewalk with a flag in his hand and grinning. It made me heartsick for baseball (go Mariners!), hot dogs, fireworks, slurpees, the US flag on a flagpole and fresh cherries from our tree at the perfect stage of ripeness on the 4th...*sigh*

8 We are just about to go outside and eat some homemade ice cream and set off our own fireworks...I'll watch some and think of you. And for those of you who are other than here: Nothing has changed. The 4th of July is exactly the same as it ever was.

9 Happy 4th! I just got home from watching the fireworks in Foster City- had a BBQ earlier, some left over beer, so I'll go open one and lift a toast to you.
