Round Two

Good thing I was so paranoid I got a bridge of antibiotics.

I am back in the hospital, after a night of bathtub screaming razor blade peeing. I was admitted as this time I was having contractions, to the tune of 1 every 3 minutes (which in labor speak means 'baby coming NOW'). I also had fluid leaking out of me, and the doctor thought it might be that my waters broke. It was very dicey for a short while, as the SBCU (special baby care unit, like the NICU) in my hospital is currently full, so it appeared I would be transported by ambulance to another hospital, where I would deliver the babies.

My waters haven't broken, luckily-my bladder is currently so badly infected I just randomly leak, so I am gusseted in enormous maxi pads and am extremely embarassed. I'm on a new and aggressive course of IV drugs treatment, and the good news is, this time the doctor offered me painkillers.

I am so grateful I would give him a kidney, although they're not worth much just now.

My contractions continue, anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes apart. It's apparently my uterus stressing out over the infection, and my body going through 'fake labor' can send me into real labor. The goal now is to get the contractions down and avoid labor while fighting the inection, which may or may not be in the kidney, too.

The babies are ok. They are uncooperative with heart monitoring but on the scans they look great. At 31 weeks as of tomorrow, though, it's still too early for them to be here.

As long as they keep me on drugs, I'm ok too-I hadn't slept in two days but I've been out for about 4 hours. It was sleep I desperately needed.

But I'm back in the hospital for a few days now.

I'm exhausted.

Angus is being fabulous.

1 Oh no!! I'm so sorry you're back in the hospital. Scary. I am glad they're able to give you something for pain this time so you were able to get some rest. I also hope this comment posts, as the main comment link is weird and goes nowhere. I am determined (and persistent!) and got a popup comment box by going to your monthly archive and clicking on the comment link at the bottom of this post. I wanted to add this in case others were wanting to leave comments and getting the same "you're lost" page I was. I'm glad Angus is being wonderful, he seems like a great guy. I hope your stay in the hospital is short and hassle-free but helpful, the contractions stop, and the babies get to stay put for a few more weeks at least. Take care, continue to get as much rest as you can, and know that I'm sending all the healthy vibes your way that I can muster.

2 I'm so sorry to hear that! At least it wasn't over the weekend (your timing is slipping!) Rest easy and keep those lemonheads in as tight as you can. All my love, and a big hug for A.

8 Oh nuts. Tell those babies they need to bake a little longer yet. Besides, I am knitting as fast as I can. Take care and hope they can keep it all in check. Sending good and healing thoughts your way babe.

9 Damn! The end of your pregnancy is sounding all too familiar to me. Well, if nothing else, take heart in the fact that you're where you (and your precious ones) can be taken very good care of. (Screw grammar, you know what I mean!) And a special blessing on Doctor Sleep Some! You certainly need your rest, love. I'm sending all good vibes and love to you and Angus (and of course your wee ones).

11 You just cant get a break can you! I am so sorry for you, keep on the pain meds and get your rest. I truly hope your feeling better soon. Here's to the lemonheads thinking the world of you and never being shitty teens after all you have endured to get here. Hang in there Helen, the end is near!!

12 Glad for the update, but don't worry about anything other than your health. Sending lots of PME (Positive Mental Energy) your way

13 Wow, your infections are almost as strong-willed as you and the L'heads. Almost, but not quite. You'll beat it with some help from chemicals. By the way, I did get it about the name contest not being for the real names! Still, I felt weirdly stressed about the whole thing, like you're someone I hope to be in touch with for a long time so I hope the blognames are good ones that fit their little personalities! Well, good luck getting yourself and the the passengers some uneventful rest.

14 GAH! Cross your legs! (it is truthfully the only thing I can think of to keep babies in - not that I think the Docs don't have it under control) Will be sending you, Lucy, Ricky, and Angus all of my best yogic namaste like energy.

26 Helen, I'm so sorry that you're suffering right now, but I'm glad that the Lemonheads are doing okay. Just get better soon. Rest as much as you can, even more than you think that you should. And keep on letting Angus take care of you. It's a task that I'm sure he loves. Big hug at you.

34 Thinking positive, hoping no news is good news. You and the Lemonheads are on my mind. Hoping you are getting rest and the babies are not beating you up too badly.

Posted by: Lisa at August 30, 2007 03:21 PM (e8V7B)

35 I understand completely what you are going through right now as I had the exact same problem with one of my pregnancies - That kind of infection SUCKS bad when you are knocked up. Just rest alot and enjoy those pain killers lol. Hopefully Hamish and Fiona will put off putting in an appearance for a few weeks yet.

Posted by: Lostdawill at August 30, 2007 03:23 PM (r1n1Z)

36 Here via Scoldy's. I had my guy at 31 weeks after a 24-hr whirlwind of pre-ecclampsia. He was just over 3 lbs, and he was perfect, just small. Anything over 32 weeks is, therefore, gravy on the cake. (Something like that.) I wish you well, and I wish the babies well, and I know they will be well, even if they don't go to term. In fact, it would save you a bit of time lugging them around!
